I teamed with Wisden in 1996, as their Official Artist,
to produce quality limited edition portraits of their historical Almanack's Five Cricketers of the Year.
Although it actually all started in 1995, when, as an avid collector of sporting memorabilia, autographs and love of
all things cricket, I decided to approach The Princes Trust
to obtain a grant with the idea of honouring all the great cricketers.
My idea was to produce limited edition portraits of the greatest players and get the prints autographed where possible, so that the ordinary collector, like myself, could afford to obtain a great collection of historical memorabilia. The Princes Trust agreed!
My first set of prints was called 'The Centurions Portfolio' and what great way to start, with such greats as Sir Don Bradman, Denis Compton, Sir Colin Cowdrey and Tom Graveney to name a few, agreeing to individually sign my prints.
During the release of the first few prints, I decided to approach David Frith at Wisden Cricket Magazine about my idea: an on going collection honouring all the great players since the first Wisden Almanack back in 1864 to be chosen as their Five Cricketers of the Year - he loved the idea and the collection began...
